Bai Guo Fong or Bai GuoFeng (白國峰), often referred to as Instructor Bai (白教官), is one of the secondary characters in Detention. He is a war veteran, and many of the students are afraid of him.

Bai is a war veteran, and rumored to have been a relentless killer during his service. This, combined with his angry personality, causes many students to fear him. He is deeply patriotic and believes in serving his country. He posted a notice at the school asking for students to report any communist or treasonous behavior. Ray gave the book club reading list to him, and he promptly had the whole club arrested. For this, Wei (and presumably the other students) was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and Ms. Yin and Mr. Chang were sentenced to death, although Yin managed to escape the country.
